Justyn Cox and Mike Phulps Motorsports Off and Running with Sprint Car Challenge Tour

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to action on Saturday night to kick off the 2019 Sprint Car Challenge Tour season after making a few starts earlier in the year, Justyn Cox and company are continuing to gel as they finished 15th with the SCCT in what was their first visit of the year at Placerville Speedway.
“We are continuing to acclimate to each other, and I think it is a process with a new team for sure,” Justyn Cox said. “15th isn’t where we want to be by any means, but were still figuring ourselves out and we all know what we are capable of together.”
In a loaded qualifying group, Cox would time the Long Creek Winery/Metal Works/Keizer Wheels machine in seventh quickest, though the margin through the group was extremely minimal.
Taking some knowledge he has gained over the last few years at Placerville Speedway, Cox would use it to his advantage in heat race action as he would make a nice move to work into fifth and take the transfer into the feature event.
Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position, Cox would bide his time early as cautions mired the opening stanza of the race. A lap nine restart would see Cox make contact with Willie Croft, which resulted in him taking a trip to the work area.
Restarting at the back of the pack, Cox would look to get his elbows up on a track that offered up a little bit of everything after the wet winter that has hindered the area.
Able to claw and scratch his way forward as far as he could, Cox closed out the SCCT opener with a 15th place finish.
“The first part of the main event I felt pretty good, but after the contact on a lap nine restart, the car handled differently and it made the rest of the race a little challenging,” Cox noted. “We got going okay, but I feel like every time we made some headway, the caution would negate it and we kept going back and forth. Good to get back to work, and thanks to everyone associated with Mike Phulps Motorsports for their hard work.”
Cox and Mike Phulps Motorsports would like to thanks Long Creek Winery, Metal Works, Keizer Wheels, Penn Grade Motor Oil, Moyle Racing Engines, FK Rod Ends, DMI, Tel Tac, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Tel Tac, Hoosier Racing Tires, Kinde Racing Products, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, Smith Titanium, CSI Shocks, ADCO Muffler and Driveline, ART, EMI, and Willwood for their support in 2019.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-3, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2
ON TAP: Justyn Cox will be behind the wheel of the Cox Family Racing No. 31C Saturday night in Placerville, CA.
