Justyn Cox Battles To Sixth at Calistoga Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting off to less than an ideal start on Saturday night at Calistoga Speedway, Justyn Cox and his Cox Family Racing team would not give up as Cox battled back in the feature event to finish eighth.

“I tried to be a crew chief early in the night, and talked my guys into something for time trials and it failed,” Cox said. “We had an arm strip out in our heat race and we spun on the last lap so it is safe to say our night got off to a pretty bad start.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31C machine in 10th fastest in time trials, Cox would line up on the front row of his heat race. Fighting a suspension issue in heat race action, Cox would slip back before finally spinning his machine out on the last lap and getting credited with a seventh place finish.

Finding himself in the 12th starting position for the feature event, Cox would find himself 10th in the early goings of the feature event as he battled hard with Geoff Ensign.

Working his way up to eighth following an early restart, Cox and Ensign would continue stay glued to each other as they waged war lap after lap battling for position well inside the Top-10.

A lap 19 yellow would breed the race’s final restart and Cox would take advantage as he was able to sneak by Kalib Henry and Bud Kaeding to work into sixth. Getting into sixth, Cox would try to chase down Shane Golobic and Tanner Thorson who ran just ahead of him, but he final six laps would click off quickly and he closed his night with a sixth place finish.

“My guys worked hard and didn’t’ give up,” Cox said. “It could have been a really bad night but we made the best of it and had some fun at a pretty historic track. Thanks again to everyone who makes this possible.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
