Justyn Cox Earns Second Place Finish During Morrie Williams Tribute Aboard BHR No. 42x

PETERSEN MEDIA: After playing ‘Super Sub’ for Bates-Hamilton Racing back in 2018, and then having another cameo with the team in 2020, Justyn Cox was back in the No. 42x on Saturday night at the Morrie Williams Tribute where he capped his nigh off with a second-place finish during the final 20-lap feature event of the night.”

“Fires and foremost, I want to thank Josh Bates and Roger Hamilton for giving me a great opportunity to run with them for the next month,” Justyn Cox said. “I have so much fun running 410’s and Saturday night was a great way to shake off some of the rust with the format being two 20-lap feature events. The guys did a great job of getting me comfortable, and we almost picked up a win during that second feature event.”

Climbing aboard the Teichert/Vinyltech backed No. 42x on Saturday night in Hanford, CA, the Clarksburg, CA driver admittedly made a mistake on both qualifying laps as he ended up 17th fastest in time trials.

Lining up in the third row of the night’s third heat race, Cox settled into sixth which was good enough to lock him directly into the night’s first 20-lap feature event.

Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position in the opening feature event of the night, Cox continued to acclimate to the new ride as he slowly worked his way forward on the big 3/8 mile oval nestled in central California.

Working into 12th, Cox would cap of the first feature event there which was crucial as it put him on the front row of the final 20-lap feature event of the night.

Once the BHR team put their final touches on the car for the finale, Cox lined up alongside Jonathan Allard for the final feature of the night, and when the green lights flashed he settled into second as Allard led early.

Running the early portion of the feature on the bottom side of the track, Cox would venture to the top and began cutting into Allard’s lead as the laps clicked down.

Catching Allard, Cox would bobble on the razor thin cushion with two laps to go and it broke his momentum. Quickly getting back on the throttle, Cox made it close on the final lap as he came up just short of the victory by .220 seconds and settled for a second-place finish.

“I hoped we could have pulled off a win our first night together, but I am super pumped with how we progressed over the course of the night,” Cox said. “We have two more races this weekend back in Hanford, CA and Tulare, CA and I am excited to get back racing with this team.”

The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Stroppini Enterprises, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Master Metal Products, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.
