Justyn Cox Hard Charges During Return to Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Returning to Placerville Speedway after taking a couple weeks off from racing, Justyn Cox put together two hard charges at the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout as a ninth place finish from 22nd highlighted his weekend.

“First off I want to thank Ivan Warden for coming out and really doing a good job helping me get dialed in,” Justyn Cox said. “Both nights we didn’t get timed in well, but the car felt really good and it was something we can build off of for sure.”

Timing in seventh fastest in is qualifying group on Saturday night, Cox would finish sixth and be forced into the ‘B’ where his second place finish would be good enough to move him into the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout preliminary night feature event.

Lining up 22nd on the field, Cox had his elbows up on the slick surface, as he came to life and made his way forward. Feeling good enough to simply go where the other cars were running as he got to them, Cox worked his way all the way into the Top-10 as he capped the night off with a ninth-place finish.

Battling brake issues early in the night on Sunday, Cox and company were able to get the problem fixed just before time trials, but it meant Cox would qualify with zero laps turned on the surface.

Just able to time in, Cox ended up eighth in his group and took the green flag from the outside of the fourth row in his heat race. Racing to a seventh place finish, Cox and his team made some changes prior to the ‘B’ where he rolled off the starting grid from fifth and needed a Top-Four finish to transfer into the ‘A’.

Putting on a show in the semi, Cox powered his way to the win and punched his ticket into the show as he lined up 21st on the starting grid.

The slick surface during Sunday’s feature made it tough to pass at times, but Cox was able to make the best of it as he slowly worked his way forward. Battling by a couple of cars during the last laps of the race, Cox capped his weekend off with another solid charge as he finished 12th.

“Our results don’t show much, but it was a good weekend working with a new crew chief and feeling things out,” Cox said. “Thanks to Ivan, Josh, Kalib, my Uncle Phil, and father in law, and my grandfather for all of their help over the weekend and making it all possible.”

The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Stroppini Enterprises, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Master Metal Products, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-20, Wins-1, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-10
