PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking some lumps at the recently completed Trophy Cup, Justyn Cox and Bates Hamilton Racing team learned form the three-day event and put it too good use with the KWS/NARC on Saturday night at Kern County Raceway.
“We had some struggles at Trophy Cup, but by the end of the weekend we had things ironed out and it helped us have a good run with KWS/NARC on Saturday night,” Justyn Cox said. “We went out pretty early in qualifying which hindered us a bit, but we raced really well the rest of the night, and I am thankful that Josh Bates and Roger Hamilton had me out again.”
Timing in 13th quickest in qualifying time trials, Cox lined up fifth in his heat race. With the track fairly narrow in heat race competition, Cox finished fifth and lined up 13th in the 30-lap feature event.
Lining up 14th in the feature event, Cox quickly jumped up into the 11th position when the race came to life. His charge towards the Top-10 would quickly be halted as contact with another car sent Cox around and forced him to the back of the pack.
Restarting from 19th, Cox had his elbows up on a hooked up surface as he began working his way back towards the Top-10 as he made up for lost time. Working into 10th, Cox continued to battle as he raced his way into seventh in the race’s closing laps.
Working the bottom on late restart shook things up for Cox. Making a move for sixth, Cox would get hung up and it would allow Carson Macedo to make a move on the outside. Dropping Cox back to eighth, he would get back to the high side for the final laps and maintain his eighth position at the line.
“These guys really gave me a good car, but it was one of those tracks where you really needed to start further forward to have a shot,” Cox said. “Still really happy with the speed we had, and am thankful to have another night in the BHR No. 42x”
The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Stroppini Enterprises, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Master Metal Products, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.
