PETERSEN MEDIA: Traveling to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA, Justyn Cox would have a good weekend that saw him and his Cox Racing team score two eighth place finishes while in action with the King of the West Series.

“I typically have my fair share of struggles in Tulare, CA, but last weekend we had a pretty good weekend I thought,” Justyn Cox said. “We didn’t make a ton of noise but we were able to move forward at times and get out of there in one piece and with two eighth place finishes.”

During Friday night’s event, Cox would time the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex No. 31c entry in 14th in time trials before he worked his way forward to finish in the third spot during heat race action.

Missing out on the Dash, Cox would line his PM Truck Repair/Konnected/LRB machine up in the seventh row of the 30-lap Peter Murphy Classic Preliminary night feature event.

Falling back to 14th at the start of the race, Cox would search around the tricky Thunderbowl Raceway as he looked for the preferred groove. Able to find some real estate that suited him well, Cox would get moving forward as he inched his way toward the Top-10.

A late restart would bunch the field back up, and from his 12th running spot, Cox would surge forward to finish in the eighth spot.

With Saturday night heat races lined up straight up from Friday night’s feature finish, Cox would find himself on the pole of the third heat race. With Colby Copeland getting the jump over the Clarksburg, CA wheelman, Cox would answer the call and proceed to win his heat in convincing fashion.

Moving into the Pole Shuffle as the eighth seed, Cox would beat Jonathan Allard in the first round, and then Shane Golobic in the second round, before falling to DJ Netto in the third round.

Advancing his feature event starting position from eighth to sixth in the match races, Cox would run in the eighth spot as the race got underway. The fast paced race would see a red flag on the initial start and a yellow on lap 11 as the only two stoppages.

Following the lap 11 restart, Cox would get out of shape and nearly spin his machine out, but keeping it under powered he would lose several spots as he fell outside of the Top-10.

Gathering his machine back up, Cox would work his way forward to close his weekend with another eighth place finish.

“Saturday night we thought the track would take rubber, so we had our car ready for that,” Cox said. “Unfortunately it never got to that point and we were a little too free. Overall though, I was happy with how we performed, and have to thank my guys for a fun weekend of racing.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, Swimming Pool Perfections, and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2016!

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-32, Wins-1, Top 5’s-6, Top 10’s-14

ON TAP: Cox will be back in action this Saturday night as he follows the King of the West Series to the Placerville Speedway.
