Justyn Cox Pockets Top-Five During First Feature Of Season
PETERSEN MEDIA: After having two nights of horrendous luck to open his 2017 season, the third time was a charm for Justyn Cox as he picked up a fifth place finish in what was his first feature event of the season.
“It was nice to finally have a night with no issues,” Justyn Cox said. “We had really good speed during opening night with our 360ci engine a few weeks ago, so it is nice to get a full feature in.”
With 28 cars timed in for the opening night of Silver Cup, the Clarksburg, CA native timed his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c entry in 13th fastest amongst the 28 drivers entered in the opening night of Silver Cup.
Taking advantage of the front row starting position, Cox was hard on the throttle and jumped out to the lead during his heat race. Leaving Michael Ing and Andy Forsberg in his wake, Cox would pick up the win and make himself eligible for the redraw.
Pulling the six pill, Cox would line the PM Truck Repair/Justice Brothers/K&N backed machine up in the third row of the feature event on a hooked and fast Silver Dollar Speedway.
When the race got underway, Cox would spend much of the night battling with Mason Moore and Shane Golobic as the trio battled for position within the Top-Five.
With passing tough on this night especially with how much time was spent in traffic, Cox would have a nice run, as he would ultimately take the checkered flag in the fifth spot.
“I had to knock some rust off after only getting a handful of laps under my belt thus far in 2017,” Cox added. “We had the car pretty close all night, but still have some small things to work on. Overall the speed we had has me excited for what is to come this season.”
