Justyn Cox Runs 16th at Fall Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though it was a long weekend for Justyn Cox and his entire Cox Racing team, Cox is pleased with how things went, and is looking forward to ending his season with a couple of big races.
“It was a long weekend, but we had some positives,” Cox said. “I think we got some kinks worked out, and that’s reassuring with Trophy Cup coming up pretty fast.”
After a tough Friday night, Cox and company were back at the track on Saturday night, and with 52 cars checked into the pit area, Cox timed his Capitol Casino/Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks entry in 19th fastest, putting himself on the front row of his heat race.
Battling with DJ Netto during the opening laps, Cox would settle for a second place finish, putting himself in the feature event, though he lined up in the 10th row.
On the slicked off surface, Cox elected to try the bottom of the speedway, as his car seemed to work much better down low than it did on the tricky cushion.
Though making moves was tough to do on the bottom, Cox was able to pick up some positions in what was some exciting back and forth racing.
“I felt like I passed a ton of cars during the A Main, but we really went back and forth, and did not gain as many spots as it felt like.”
When the 40-lap feature event came to a close, Cox crossed the stripe with a 16th place finish.
Friday night was a trying night for the Cox Racing team, as Justyn kicked the night off by timing the JRD Endeavors/NAAKE/LRB backed No. 31c machine in 14th fastest.
Just like he did on Saturday night, Cox battled with DJ Netto for the top spot in the first few laps, until his front axle snapped going down the backstretch, causing him to come to a stop, and forcing him into the night’s B Main.
Starting third in the night’s semi, Cox found himself in the fourth spot, and in a very tight battle with Matt Peterson.
As the duo battled side by side for a handful of laps, contact between the two ensued, and Cox’s night ultimately came to a close.
“My guys worked their tails off for me all weekend,” he said. “We tore up some stuff, but Rodney, Kieran, Rick, Gramps, and Rob Balga all worked to keep me on track.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Capitol Casino, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, JRI Shocks, JRD Endeavors, NAAKE, LRB, Tim’s Hot Rods, Justice Brothers, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports, MTFX Graphics, Konnected, and College Cyclery for their support during the 2014 season.
2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-21, Wins-0, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-8
ON TAP: Cox will be back in action this Saturday night as he travels to the Marysville Raceway Park for the Toller Classic.
