PETERSEN MEDIA: Climbing back aboard the Cox Family Racing No. 31c on Saturday night, Justyn Cox would battle with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at the Cotton Classic and would come home with his third consecutive runner up finish with the series.

“We have been really consistent with the SCCT during these last few races, but I would love to get us one spot better,” Justyn Cox said. “We had the car to do it on Saturday, but we had a really bad stumble that got worse as the engine built up heat and restarts just killed us.”

Cox got his night off to a great start as he timed the Michael David Winery/Five Window Beer Company/MDW Sports backed No. 31c machine in fastest in his qualifying group.

On a the hooked up surface that still had some grease on it in heat race action, Cox’s third place finish would be good enough to move him into both the Dash as well as the feature event.

Battling with Cole Macedo in the Dash, Cox would finish second in the six lap showdown, and put himself on the pole for the 34thAnnual Cotton Classic feature event.

With the track still plenty fast, Cox would get the jump when the action went green as he set the pace early only to see a slew of stoppages hinder the race’s flow.

As restarts were not kind to Cox as he engine would stumble bad as he got back on the throttle, a lap 14 restart saw Cole Macedo get by him and take over the race’s top spot.

Chasing after Macedo and also battling with Sean Becker, things would get interesting as lap traffic approached but untimely cautions would continue to keep the leaders from getting too deep into traffic.

A couple of late restarts would see Macedo get away from Cox time and time again, and on this night, Cox would settle for second as the checkered flag flew.

“We kept trying to get the stumble out all night, but we couldn’t quite make it happen,” Cox said. “Thanks to my guys, it was kind of a weird main, but still a successful night for our team.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
