Justyn Cox Second on Saturday

PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to run up front in 2018, Justyn Cox was able to breathe a sigh of relief on Saturday night as he was able to keep the gremlins away as he finished second during a hard fought feature event at Placerville Speedway.
“We had a really good car, and it was great to really have an event free night,” Justyn Cox said. “I think we were just as fast as the (race winner) X1, but just couldn’t get into traffic and get a shot.”
Going out early in the time trials session, Cox would get off to a less than stellar start as he would end up timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c sprinter in 12th quickest amongst the 24 cars packed into to the pit area.
Taking the green flag from the outside front row of his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA pilot would work his way to the all important lead where his heat race win then made him eligible for the top-eight redraw.
Pulling the six pill, Cox would line the PM Truck Repair/Justice Brothers/K&N machine up in the third row for the 25-lap finale. Getting into third when the race came to life by way of a couple of swift moves, Cox would avoid disaster when a lap eight restart went haywire and collected several drivers around him.
Subsequently gaining a position when it all was sorted out, Cox would restart the race from the third position. Chasing after Andy Forsberg and Billy Wallace, Cox would actually make a bid for second and clear Forsberg on lap 14 for the position but the yellow flag flew and negated his efforts.
When the race picked back up, Cox would get by Wallace to take over the second spot as he gave it his all to inch closer on Forsberg. While Forsberg didn’t pull away from Cox, the duo appeared to be equally as fast and Cox would be unable to close in on him as he took the checkered flag in the second position.
“We got going about the halfway point, but an untimely yellow hurt us after we made a pass for second,” Cox added. “Second is still a great finish. We have been up front a lot this year, but luck hasn’t been on our side. It is great to have a night where he would end what we started.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
