PETERSEN MEDIA: Reuniting with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night, Justyn Cox took part in the series’ first ever visit to the revamped Merced Speedway, and had a great night that saw him finish second.

“We went through our car after hurting the frame a couple of weeks ago and found some things we didn’t like and made some changes that helped a ton,” Justyn Cox said. “We were really good all night long, Jodie was just a little better in the rubber and we ended up second.”

With 34 cars checked in to the check out the tight bullring, Cox kicked things off by earning quick time honors in his group aboard the Michael David Winery/Five Window Beer Company/MDW Sports backed No. 31c.

Just needing to transfer through his heat race for the Dash, Cox would continue to feel out the speedway as he finished fourth in his heat race before finishing second in the High Sierra Industries Dash.

On the slick, but racy Merced Speedway surface, Cox would slip back to third as he battled with the likes of Kyle Hirst and DJ Netto as they all chased after Jodie Robinson.

As the track continued to change as the race moved along, Cox would find his way around Netto for second just prior to the races halfway point.

Following a fuel stop, Cox would take a couple of shots at Robinson as the rubber started to go down on the track, and once it finally did he went into defensive mode as he looked to hold down second.

Fending off Kyle Hirst late, Cox would close his Saturday night out with a second place finish.

“We have been so close to winning with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, we just haven’t quite pulled it off yet,” Cox said. “We had a good night, the track was a lot of fun, and we will take this and see if we can get back into victory lane at Placerville Speedway on Saturday.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2019!
