Justyn Cox Sixth at Placerville Speedway
Updated: Jul 18, 2022

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting back to racing for the first time since the 4th of July holiday, Justyn Cox put a strong night together that culminated with a sixth-place finish.
“Unfortunately, I woke up sick on the 4th of July, and had to take a couple of weeks off,” Justyn Cox said. “It felt good to get back in the car on Saturday, but I was definitely huffing and puffing over the course of the feature event.”
Checking in at Placerville Speedway, Cox timed his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Michael David Winery backed No. 31c in 12th fastest in qualifying time trials.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Cox slipped into second when the race but to life but was relentless on the top side of the speedway. Banging off the cushion lap after lap, Cox’s hard work would reward him coming to the checkered as he edged Michael Ing and the flag stand and earned the all-important berth into the redraw.
As fate would have it, Cox would pull the eight pill for the third time in as many Placerville Speedway redraws he has qualified for in 2022.
On the racy Placerville Speedway surface, Cox hooked up in an entertaining battle with Steven Tiner as the duo fought for a position inside the Top-Five. While the battle was entertaining it didn’t allow for either driver to make a run through the field as they continued to battle each other.
With a thick curb built up around the ¼ mile bullring, and some tricky ruts on the bottom, the track would be technical, and it made for their battle to be that much more entertaining.
When the Darren Stahl flag was displayed to the field, Cox brough the Cox-Berco Racing entry home with a sixth-place finish.
“I had a really fun battle with Steven Tiner, but that kind of hindered either one of us from making a run up through the field,” Cox added. “I think we had a car that was better than sixth place, but with it being the first one back in a few weeks, and me still building my stamina back up I am happy with it.”
The Cox-Berco Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, MDW Sports, Stroppini Enterprises, Cranked Naturals, Trex, Master Metal Products, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their continued support.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-15, Wins-1, Top 5’s-4, Top 10’s-8
