Justyn Cox Third at Ocean Speedway in Family Car

PETERSEN MEDIA: Friday night, Justyn Cox and the Cox Family Racing team headed to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA where Cox would pick up a third-place finish on a very old school, rough and heavy racing surface.
“We don’t often get the chance to run the family car, so we always get off to a bit of a slow start as we reacclimate,” Cox said. “But we get better as the night goes on, and we did that on Friday. It was heavy and rough, and we made some good laps, I just couldn’t catch the leaders.”
With 27 cars on hand for the first event of the year at Ocean Speedway, Cox timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/MDW backed No. 31c machine in fifth fastest in time trials.
Finishing second in his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA driver would move into the Dash based on his qualifying time though the zero-inversion lined him up fifth on the starting grid.
Able to gain a spot and finish fourth, Cox would take the green flag from the fourth starting position for the 30-lap feature event. When the green flag flew, Cox was able to get into the third position as he chased after Justin Sanders and Tanner Carrick.
With the track rough, Cox was constantly changing his line up to avoid some of the ruts and holes and was able to do so and keep his position.
A restart just past the race’s halfway point would bunch the field back up, but Cox just couldn’t get up to the lead duo as he continued to hold on to the third position where he would go on to finish.
“We had a good car, and I could keep pace with the lead duo, but we just could not get to them,” Cox added. “Thanks to Rodney and everyone on the team for their hard work.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Michael David Winery, Five Window Beer Company, MDW Sports, Cranked Naturals, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, VSR, , Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Don Ott Racing Engines, and Richmond Engines for their support in 2021!
BY THE NUMBERS: Races-7, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-4
