Justyn Cox Works Hard To Make Turkey Night Sprint Car Feature Event

PETERSEN MEDIA: Shedding his wings to get another couple of races in to close his 2017 season, Justyn Cox and the Cox Family Racing team made the trip to Ventura Raceway to take part in the Turkey Night Grand Prix with the VRA/USAC West Coast 360 Series.
“It was a tough show, but we worked hard and bounced back after a tough Wednesday night to make the Thursday night ‘A’ Main,” Justyn Cox said.
Wednesday night would see Cox timed the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31C machine in 13th in time trials, just barely missing out on the heat race inversion.
Lining up in the fifth starting spot, Cox would get up into the important third and final transfer spot, but a spinning car would collect Cox and force him into a spin and he would be forced to the back of the pack.
Rebounding to finish in the fourth spot, Cox would just miss out on the transfer to the feature and with no semi on Wednesday night his night would come to an early end and he would be deep in a semi on Thursday.
Lining up 12th in his Thursday night semi, Cox would make contact with a fellow competitor on the first lap of the race, and he would have his work cut out for him as he needed to get up to the top-four to make the show. Working his way up to seventh, the Clarksburg, CA driver would turn in some extremely smooth laps on the bottom of the speedway as he got into fifth.
A green-white-checkered restart would give Cox one final shot to make the show, and he would make a couple of nice moves to get to third and move into the 30-lap Turkey Night feature event.
Lining up 16th in the feature event, the outside would prove to be less than ideal when the race came to life. Falling back to 18th as he fought to get down to the bottom, Cox would soon settle on for the first 10-laps.
Continuing to work the bottom, a car would get out of shape just in front of Cox and as he made contact he was able to make a great save and keep his machine upright, but he opted to pull back to the pit area and call it a night.
“It was a bit of a frustrating weekend, but I am proud of my guys for working hard and giving me a car that was able to come from pretty far back and make the show,” Cox said. “It was a great season, and I am looking forward to the offseason and meeting my son here hopefully sooner than later.”
The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, EyeLusions, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2017!
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-52, Wins-6, Top 5’s-20, Top 10’s-29
