PETERSEN MEDIA- After a long winter of putting together a new car and engine package and bringing in a new crew chief, Tim Kaeding and his Lunstra Motorsports team made their 2016 season debut on Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway as TK charged from his 14th starting spot to finish ninth on the historic ½ mile.

“We didn’t time in well and that hurt us,” Kaeding said. “Considering we have some new combinations going on with a new crew chief, we were all happy with how the first night went overall though.”

Timing the Dammer Trucking/Folkens Bros. Trucking/Mihm Trucking No. 3 machine in 15th fastest in qualifying time trials, the San Jose, CA native was able to pick up a win in his heat race from his front row starting position.

Lining up in the seventh row of the 25-lap season opening feature event at the Knoxville Raceway, Kaeding was on a mission as he was quick on a track that had gone slick on this night.

Working into the Top-10, Kaeding was able to get Brooke Tatnell late in the race to take over the ninth spot. With Sammy Swindell and Tasker Phillips running just ahead of him, Kaeding tried to reel in the duo, but with rubber going down on the speedway late he thought better of it and settled into the ninth, where he would go on to finish.

“I thought we raced really well, and we probably battle for a Top-Five if the driver doesn’t completely let the team down in time trials,” Kaeding said. “Dave Lunstra has done a heck of a job putting another strong team together and I am excited for what is to come this year.”

The Lunstra Motorsports team would like to thank Dammer Trucking, Folkens Bros. Trucking, Mihm Trucking, Yager Agriculture Supply, EMI, Matt’s Repair, and Trac2Trail Arctic Cat for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: TK and the Lunstra Motorsports team will be back in action on Friday night in Rock Rapids, IA with the NSL 360’s before returning to the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night.
