Kaleb Montgomery Charges to 4th with C&M Motorsports at Fall Nationals

PETERSEN MEDIA- With his first stint in the C&M Motorsports cut short to mechanical issues during the opening night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, Kaleb Montgomery got the call to again run the potent No. 7c in Chico, CA over the weekend and made the most of his opportunity as he charged to a fourth-place finish during the Fall Nationals finale.
“Friday night I kind of had to fight the car in the feature, and we fell back towards the end of the race,” Kaleb Montgomery said. “Saturday night, Cody and the guys gave me a super tune and we had a great run in the feature event.”
Opening up the Fall Nationals on Friday night with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour, Montgomery kicked the weekend off by timing the Legacy Specialties Inc./Lund Construction/Anrak backed No. 7c in third quickest in his qualifying group before racing his way to a second-place finish in his heat race.
Locking into the opening night feature event, Montgomery took the green flag from the 10th starting position. When the green lights flashed to open up the 35-lap feature, the Templeton, CA driver began working his way forward as he got up as high as seventh during a wild opening of the feature event.
Keeping his mount well inside the Top-10, a couple of miscues as he worked the wheel saw Montgomery slip as far back as 16th in the waning stages of the race. Doing what he could to gather positions back up, Montgomery closed the night out with a 13th place finish.
Saturday night’s Fall Nationals finale came to life with Montgomery timing in fourth fastest in his qualifying group which lined him up fourth in his heat race.
Finishing in the fifth and final transfer position, Montgomery took the green flag from the 17th starting position in the 40-lap feature event with a very strong C&M Motorsports entry underneath him.
Racing into the Top-10 in just the first five laps of the feature, Montgomery was very patient as the race endured several early stoppages on this night. Continuing to fight through the Top-10, Montgomery cracked the top-five for the first time on the 23rd lap.
Running extremely strong inside the Top-Five, Montgomery continued to look for more as he raced into third and chased after a podium with just four laps left in the race.
Battling with Kalib Henry on the final lap for the final spot on the podium, Henry would get the edge using the low groove, as Montgomery capped his weekend off with a fourth place finish after lining up back in 17th.
“Once Cody was able to figure out what I liked, we had a really good car and it was a blast fighting for a podium,” Montgomery added. “Thanks to Cody and Mandi for a great weekend, and thanks to all the guys that helped on the car as well.”
The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Legacy Specialties Inc., Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.
