Kaleb Montgomery Sixth at ‘The Forni’ in Fill In Role with Dale Miller Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA- While Justin Sanders was away competing in Washington state over the weekend, Dale Miller Motorsports made the decision to have Kaleb Montgomery to make an appearance in the No. 4SA on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway for the coveted Mark Forni Classic.

“Dale’s car was a dream to drive, and I really can’t thank him and Tara enough for the amazing opportunity and having the confidence in me to pilot their car in a huge race,” Kaleb Montgomery said. “We were super-fast all night long, and we were able to keep it up front in the feature where it belongs.”

With 43-cars on hand Saturday night in Placerville, CA for the 17th Mark Forni Classic, officials opted to split qualifying up into two separate flights. Going out early in the second group, Montgomery not only set the standard in his flight, but earned fast time honors overall aboard the Thompson’s Buick-GMC/Thompson’s Jeep-Ram/Dale Miller Septic Inc. backed No. 4SA.

Gridding the field from the second row of his heat race, the Templeton, CA driver simply needed to finish inside the Top-Four to solidify himself in the nightly redraw.

Montgomery’s heat race got off to a challenging start as an opening lap miscue saw him slip back and fall out of a transfer position. Getting his elbows up, the Templeton, CA driver took advantage of a late restart and moved into fourth, where he would finish, and locked the Dale Miller Motorsports entry into the 25-lap, $5000-to-win feature event.

Qualifying for the redraw as the night’s fast time qualifier, Montgomery would pull the seven pill and took the green flag from the impending feature event inside of the fourth row.

On an extremely slick Placerville Speedway surface Montgomery went to work on the curb as he raced inside the Top-10 with much of the field strung out in single-file formation.

As the race continued on, the cushion would continue to be the dominant line however it would become increasingly difficult to run. Extremely smooth on the lip, Montgomery raced into sixth on the 19th lap after falling back to eighth at the race’s halfway point.

A couple late restarts saw Montgomery take a couple of shots for fifth, but he would settle into line and bring the potent Dale Miller Motorsports mount home with a sixth place finish.

“I had a lot of fun with Dale Miller and his team, and if the opportunity presents itself again, I would love to jump back in their car,” Montgomery added. “I am really thankful for the opportunity, and wish Dale and his team the best of luck for the rest of their season.”

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 9, Wins- 4, Top-5’s-7, Top-10’s-9

ON TAP: Dale Miller and the Miller Motorsports team is TBD on their next event.
