Kalib Henry and McColloch Motorsports 4th at Johnny Key Classic

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trip out to Watsonville, CA with McColloch Motorsports, Kalib Henry would put together a strong showing with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as he finished fourth at the 61st Johnny Key Classic.

“Our car has really good balance and a lot of speed right now,” Henry said. “Nick has really been working hard and it is paying off. Unfortunately, the track took rubber and really didn’t allow for a lot of action for most of the race.”

With 48 cars on hand Saturday night, Henry would time the McColloch’s RV Repair/Express Sewer and Drain/Davis Truck Painting backed NO. 17 in second fastest in his qualifying group which would be good enough for the pole of his heat race.

Battling with Joey Ancona in the opening stages of his heat, the Mather, CA driver was able to clear his competitor and race his way to the very important Heat Race win. By way of the win, Henry would be locked into the Johnny Key Classic feature event and would also qualify for the High Sierra Industries Dash.

Pulling the five in the redraw, Henry would finish fifth in the Dash would lined him up in the third row of the 35-lap Johnny Key Classic feature event.

Following a bit of track prep prior to the feature event, Henry would get off to a nice start as he was able to jump into the fourth position as the leaders were in traffic in the opening five laps.

The first half of the race ripped off at a torrid pace until the first caution flag was needed. As the race went back green, the track changed drastically, and rubber began to go down on the surface.

As the rubber built up, passing would come to a halt as the field got in the rubber and worked around the ¼ mile.

Keeping his place in line, Henry would go on to cap his night off with a fourth-place finish.

“It was a bummer the track took rubber, because I felt we were really good,” Henry said. “Looking forward to taking this car to Stockton this weekend and see how we stack up after a rough go when we were there back in July.”

McColloch Motorsports would like to thank McColloch’s RV Repair, Express Sewer and Drain, Davis Truck Painting, Driven Homes, Inc., ART Speed Equipment, RE Technologies, Hansen Machine, ADCO Driveline, and Gary Morgan Graphics for their continued support.
