KCP Racing and Gio Scelzi Poised for More PA Action This Week

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though the Tuscarora 50 was rough on Gio Scelzi and KCP Racing, the youngster from Fresno, CA is already looking to put the event behind him as the team gears up for another big week of action in the Keystone State.

“Thursday night went really well for our race team, but Friday and Saturday the track got really slick, and it is a slick like no other there,” Gio Scelzi said. “It is something we all will work to get better on, but none of us are worried about it moving forward.”

The big three-day event that was sanctioned with the All Stars saw Scelzi get off to a great start on Thursday night. Earning quick time honors in his qualifying group aboard the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed no. 18 machine, Scelzi’s second place finish in his heat race would propel him into the Dash.

Running fourth in the Dash, Scelzi would roll off of the starting grid from the seventh position for the first feature event of the busy weekend. On a track that held a lot of moisture and built up a cushion, Scelzi would make the most of his night.

On the high-speed facility, Scelzi would do a great job of working his way into the Top-Five as he opened the weekend up with a fourth-place finish.

As the weekend carried into Friday night, the Port Royal Speedway surface would start to show signs of wear with a ton of cars packed into the pit area for the historic event.

Timing in fourth fastest in his group on Friday and running second in his heat, Scelzi would find himself back in the 15th starting position for the feature event. On the extremely slick surface, Scelzi would struggle to get going as he slipped back and ultimately pulled off.

Credited with a 26th place finish, Scelzi and company would look to have a strong run during the big show on Saturday night.

Timing in 10th fastest in his time trial flight on Saturday, Scelzi would pocket a second-place finish in his heat race and safely transfer into the 50-lap Tuscarora 50 feature event.

Lining up 13th on another extremely slick surface, Scelzi would have his hands full as he tried to find grip. Slipping back to 19th at the halfway point when the competition yellow flew, Scelzi and the KCP Racing team would make some adjustments for the final 25 laps, but he still would be mired in the field as he ended his weekend with a 20thplace finish.

“That place is really tough when it gets that slick, and it isn’t anything we have dealt with a s a team until the Tusky,” Scelzi said. “I believe in Tyler Swank, and know that we can put our heads together and figure it out. We have another busy week ahead in PA, and I am really excited.”

KCP Racing would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, Armor Electric Company, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-15, Wins-0, Top-5’s- 6, Top 10’s-8
