PETERSEN MEDIA- Heading to what he calls one of the most technical tracks on the tour, Kerry Madsen and his American Racing team finished 15th on Saturday night during the National Open at the Williams Grove Speedway.

“We were just okay,” Madsen said. “We actually timed in pretty good for when we went out, but I couldn’t’ get the job done in the heat race and we missed the dash.”

With 55 cars checked in for the rain-shortened National Open, Madsen timed the American Racing/Keneric Racing No. 29 machine in 15th fastest, putting him on the front row of his heat race.

Slipping to the second spot on the start of his heat, Madsen would chase after Danny Holtgraver, but soon found himself back in the third spot, where he would finish, as Joey Saldana got by him.

Though he finished in the third spot, Madsen still transferred to the feature event, where he lined his machine up in the 17th spot for the 40-lap feature event.

As the race came to life, Madsen did not get the jump he had hoped for, as he was shuffled to the back of the pack, as he tried to rebound during the first 15-lap green flag run of the race.

Sitting in the 20th spot when the race’s first caution flew, Madsen slipped back a few more spots over the next 12 lap run, as he sat in 22nd when the caution flew with 13-laps left, but during this time, officials opened the red flag up as cars had reached the allotted number of laps.

Back to green, Madsen got off to a much better star, as he began heading the right direction, as he began maneuvering through traffic. Getting by Tim Shaffer and Danny Holtgraver in the closing laps, Madsen was able to rebound to a 15th place finish.

“It wasn’t the result that we were looking for, but it was nice to get going the right direction at the end of the race,’ he added. “It was tough to make up much ground from the back.”

2014 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-91, Wins-9, Top-5’s-46, Top 10’s-70
