Kerry Madsen Closes California Out With Pair of Sixth Place Finishes

PETERSEN MEDIA- The daunting California spring tour came to a close over the weekend, and Kerry Madsen ended his stay in the Golden State by posting a pair of sixth place finishes, and getting off the West Coast sitting fourth in the 2015 championship point standings.
“It was a nice weekend for our team,” Madsen said. “I think we had a better car than a sixth place finish on Saturday night, but we will take a couple of Top-10’s and look forward to Devil’s Bowl.”
The Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA opened the weekend of racing up on Friday night, as Madsen timed the Keneric Racing/American Racing/Morrison Racing Engines powered No. 29 machine in second fastest amongst the 27 cars entered in the event.
Following a fifth place finish in heat race action, ‘The Mad Man’ would move into the night’s dash, where he would finish in the sixth position, putting him in the third row for the 35 lap main event.
Running in the sixth spot as the race got underway, Madsen would chase after Paul McMahan and Kyle Hirst as he worked around the extremely slick 3/8 mile track. Madsen would then find himself in a battle with Daryn Pittman and Donny Schatz as the action picked up. Continuing to battle in the lead pack, Madsen would battle with Bud Kaeding late in the race as he closed the night with a sixth place finish.
Saturday night saw the Spring Swing come to a close as they series took to the Perris Auto Speedway in Southern California. With a light car count on hand, Madsen would time in sixth fastest.
The light car count saw a new format unveiled by the World of Outlaws, and after finishing second in his heat race, Madsen would then go on to win the qualifier, and earn a spot in the dash.
Finishing second in the dash, Madsen would line up on the front row of the main event alongside Donny Schatz, and as the race got underway, the action heated up in a hurry, and ‘The Mad Man’ would lead the first lap of the race.
A four-car battle for the lead saw Madsen, Saldana, McMahan, and Schatz all go toe-to-toe for the top spot, as the Perris Auto Speedway was primed for an exciting race.
Running in the third spot, lapped traffic would come into play late in the race, and traffic was not kind to Madsen. Weaving in through traffic, Madsen would battle with Shane Stewart and Schatz, and as they navigated slower cars, Madsen would take the checkered flag with a sixth place finish.
“Saturday night I feel we underachieved a little,” Madsen said. “We had a way better car than we finished, but traffic did not work out for us. We got into traffic, and lost some spots late in the race. All-in-all I think it was a successful trip to California, and hopefully we can back in the Midwest and keep running well.”
2015 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-32, Wins-6, Top-5’s-19, Top 10’s-27
ON TAP: Madsen and his team will attack the Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday and Saturday night.
