Kerry Madsen Earns Two Top-Five Finishes

PETERSEN MEDIA- Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing team continue to run up front and show consistency as the St. Marys, NSW pilot earned a pair of Top-Five finishes over the last week.
“It was a strong week for us in general,” Madsen said. “We hated to go the wrong way at the I-80 Speedway on Friday night, but we ran very well at Kokomo and Knoxville.”
Kicking a three-race week off on Wednesday night in Kokomo, IN, ‘The Mad Man’ got things started off by timing the American Racing Custom Wheels/Keneric Racing No. 29 machine in ninth fastest.
Picking up the heat race win, Madsen would find himself in the dash where he would grab a seventh place finish, and line up for the 40-lap feature event in the fourth row.
The racing action at the Kokomo Speedway was second to none as there was action all over the speedway. Battling with young guns like Christopher Bell, Rico Abreu, and Kyle Larson, ‘The Mad Man’ was able to carve his way inside the Top-Five and finish with a fourth place finish.
“There was a ton of action at Kokomo on Wednesday night and we were able to stay out of trouble and race hard and get a nice finish,” Madsen added.
Friday night the scene shifted to the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE, and Madsen got off to a very strong start as he timed is Morrison Racing Engines powered No. 29 machine in third quickest.
By way of his third place finish in his heat race, Madsen would transfer into the night’s dash where a second place finish would put him on the front row of the main event.
Getting the early jump, Madsen set a strong pace as he would lead the first five laps working the bottom of the speedway until the caution flew. The restart would not go Madsen’s way as he would slip back a few positions. Restarts would not be kind to Madsen on this night as he would lose a few positions on each restart as he fell back to ninth at the finish.
“We had a strong car, but it felt like we would lose air pressure on restarts and that hurt us each time,” the 2014 Kings Royal Champion noted.
With the scheduled Saturday night World of Outlaws race being postponed due to rain, Madsen and company made the trip to Knoxville, IA to get a night of racing in at the Knoxville Raceway.
Timing in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials, ‘The Mad Man’ would finish third in his heat race and grid the field from the third row for the 20-lap feature event.
Just past the race’s halfway point, Madsen hooked up in a torrid battle for the second spot with him ultimately getting the spot from his brother, Ian Madsen in the closing laps.
Though Terry McCarl would pressure for the second spot late in the race, Madsen would have nothing of it as he kept the spot and ended his weekend with a second place finish.
“We had a really good car on Saturday night, and it was great to end our weekend like that, “ Madsen said “The boys have worked hard all year and we are continuing to run up front and are getting closer to our first World of Outlaws win of the season.”
2015 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-48, Wins-6, Top-5’s-26, Top 10’s-40
ON TAP: Madsen and his Keneric Racing team return to action Friday night at the Crawford County Speedway, Saturday night they return to the Knoxville Raceway, before closing the weekend at the Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night.
