Kerry Madsen Fifth at 2016 Knoxville Raceway Season Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to his Keneric Racing team’s USA headquarters in Knoxville, IA after an extended visit to California, Kerry Madsen took part in the 2016 Knoxville Raceway season opening event where he would have a very strong night that ended with a fifth place finish.
“We had really good speed all night long and just had a little bad luck keep us off the podium,” Madsen explained. “We were racing for second when our right rear tire started losing air and it made the car a handful for the last few laps.”
Escaping the tight confines of the California for the historic ½ mile located on the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, IA, Madsen flexed his muscle early as he earned quick time honors aboard his Keneric Health Care/Keneric Racing/American Racing Custom Wheels No. 29 machine.
Lining up in the third row of his heat race, “The Mad Man” put on a show as he carved his way through the field to pick up a second place finish and safely earn a spot in the 25-lap feature event.
Gridding the field from the third row, Madsen would settle into the fifth spot during the opening stages of the race. On lap nine, the St. Marys, NSW driver was able to make a big move on RJ Johnson and Davey Heskin to move into the third spot.
Once in third, Madsen began chasing down second running Bryan Clauson until the caution flew on lap 17. The ensuing restart saw Madsen begin to challenge for the spot but with the track starting to take rubber, Madsen’s right rear would begin to go down.
Now battling a racecar that was ill handling due to a deflating tire, Madsen would lose two positions over the final five laps as he closed his night up with a fifth place finish.
“I guess you could say we were fortunate our tire lasted all the way to the end of the race, but it was a little disappointing to fade like we did with it going down,” Madsen said. “Overall it was a good night for us, and we showed a lot of speed. Huge thanks to everyone who supports us, and to the Gavranich Family for all that they do for this team.”
2016 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-31, Wins-5, Top-5’s-12, Top 10’s-18
