Kerry Madsen Fifth in Stockton, CA

PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to test and tune on some things to start the 2016 season, Kerry Madsen was pleased with the way his Saturday night went in Stockton, CA as he finished in the fifth spot.

“We were okay on Saturday and it was good to get a nice Top-Five finish,” Said Kerry Madsen. “Friday night was a bit of a disappointment, but we have been testing and tuning on some stuff and we all feel like there is some light at the end of the tunnel which is a good thing.”

After avoiding a near disaster during time trials on Friday night, Madsen was able to time the Keneric Health Care/Keneric Group/American Racing Custom Wheels No. 29 machine in sixth fastest.

Slipping back to fourth in his heat race after lining up on the front row, the 2016 Australian National Sprint Car Champion would safely move into the feature event but would find his Morrison Racing Engines/KCP No. 29 entry in the 14th starting position.

Racing wheel to wheel with Paul McMahan, Jason Sides, and Greg Wilson while battling for position, Madsen would fall back a few spots around the halfway point of the feature event, but he was able to use a mid-race restart to get back up into the 14th spot.

As he chased after David Gravel and Daryn Pittman, who raced just ahead of him in the closing laps, Madsen would get to his competitors, but the checkered flag would fly and he would be credited with a 14th place finish.

Turning in another strong qualifying effort on Saturday night, Madsen would end up third quickest before picking up the important heat race win and moving into the Dash, where he finished in the fourth spot.

Madsen would jump into the third spot as the race went green and he chased after second running Daryn Pittman, and race leader Joey Saldana, who wasted no time building up a sizeable lead.

Continuing to run in the third spot despite a couple of early cautions, Madsen would feel pressure from Donny Schatz as the race settled into an extended green flag run.

Falling back to fourth, Madsen would continue search around the racy Stockton Dirt Track as he chased after the race leaders. Getting into traffic amidst the run, Madsen would feel pressure from Kyle Hirst.

As Madsen went to drop under a slower car, Hirst used to high-side to get both cars, and dropped Madsen back to fifth.

Closing in on fourth running Joey Saldana in the last couple of laps, Madsen would bring his weekend to a close with a fifth place run.

“It was good for this team to end our weekend with a strong run,” Madsen added. “I think what we have been trying is finally coming around, and we are all confident we can keep this machine running up front. All us really have to thank the Gavranich and everyone involved with Keneric Health Care, and the Keneric Group.”
