PETERSEN MEDIA- Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing team put on quite the show on Friday night in Jackson, MN as Madsen charged from his 12th starting spot to finish second with the World of Outlaws.
“I really gave it everything I had on that last lap Friday night,” Madsen said. “We had a really good car, and it was a blast to come up through the field.”
Checking in at the Jackson Motorplex with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’, Madsen would time his Keneric Health Care/Keneric Racing/American Racing Custom Wheels backed No. 29 machine in 16th fastest in time trials.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Madsen would pick up a position as his third place finish would line him up 12th in the 30-lap feature event. On a track that proved to be racy, Madsen would fly around the ½ mile picking off cars at will.
Getting up to the Top-Five, Madsen didn’t let up as he continued to drive by cars and look to be a player in the race’s final laps. Getting into the second spot with 10-laps to go in the event, Madsen would close in on the race leader, and though it looked as if he would run out of time the caution flew on lap 29 setting up a green-white-checkered finish.
Letting it all hang out when the race came back to green, Madsen would try to drive around Pittman over the final run, but would come up short as he finished in the second spot.
“I had a really good line in three and four, and I really just flat footed it during that final restart to try and make it work, but it needed to be absolutely perfect to work,” Madsen added. “I was glad we were fast.”
Heading to the Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday night, Madsen would open his night up by timing in fifth fastest in the night’s qualifying session. Slipping back to finish in the third spot of his heat race, Madsen would grid the field from the fourth row for the 40-lap JB Boyd Memorial feature event.
On a track that allowed some moving around, Madsen would run inside the Top-10 for the duration of the race, but couldn’t seem to make forward progress. Battling with Logan Schuchart and Shane Stewart much of the night, Madsen would get near the Top-Five, but would ultimately close his weekend out with an eighth place finish.
“Saturday night we were okay, and actually should have probably finished a little better than where we ended up,” Madsen added. “All-in-all it was a good weekend for our team, and we are really coming alive at the right time of the year.”
