PETERSEN MEDIA- Spending last weekend ending his season in Australia, Kerry Madsen reunited with the World of Outlaws in Nevada and Arizona over the weekend, as he picked up two more Top-10 finishes aboard his Keneric Health Car/Keneric Group/American Racing No. 29 machine.
“It was just an average weekend for our team,” said Kerry Madsen. “We are making progress, so hopefully we can be up front battling for wins in California.”
Madsen got the first of a two-night stay in Las Vegas, NV underway on Thursday night by timing his machine in second fastest in his qualifying flight, which would line him up on the front row of his heat race.
Getting out to the early lead, Madsen would fall to second late in the race, but the finishing position would still qualify him for the Dash, where an eighth place finish lined him up in the fourth row for the feature event.
The extremely slick Las Vegas Dirt Track saw much of the field jockey for position on the bottom side of the race track, with a top groove essentially non existent. With passing at a premium, Madsen would try to make something happen up top, but it would work to no avail as he finished in the eighth spot.
Back in action on Friday night, the 2016 Australia Champion would lay down another good lap in time trials as he would time the Keneric Health Care entry in fifth fastest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race aboard the Keneric Racing/American Racing No. 29 machine, Madsen would finish in the third spot, which lined him up ninth in the feature event.
Battling within the Top-10 much of the night, the St. Marys, NSW driver would battle with the likes of Bryan Clauson and Sammy Swindell in the early laps. As the laps clicked off he would soon feel pressure from a pair of charging drivers, as Jason Johnson and Dusty Zomer engaged in battle with Madsen.
As the two-night stay in Las Vegas, NV came to a close, Madsen would take the checkered flag in the 12th spot.
Heading to Arizona for a Sunday of racing action, Madsen would qualify ninth fastest in time trials before racing his way to a third place finish in heat race action.
Lining the Keneric Group/Keneric Health Care/American Racing Custom Wheels machine up in the fifth row for the first ever World of Outlaws feature event at the track.
On a track that was slick and wide, Madsen would spend the duration of the race battling for position inside the Top-10. Exchanging positions with Logan Schuchart and Jason Johnson during the race, Madsen would bring his weekend to a close with his second Top-10 of the weekend by way of a ninth place finish.
“I have to thank Bob and Pete Gavranich for supporting us, and letting us head West with the World of Outlaws to get some racing in,” Madsen added. “It’s been a bit of a challenge for us early, but I do think we are continuing to gain on it and improve.”
2016 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-24, Wins-5, Top-5’s-9, Top 10’s-15
