PETERSEN MEDIA- With the World of Outlaws essentially taking the Memorial Day Weekend off, Kerry Madsen would run 10th at the Dirt Track at Charlotte on Friday night before catching a plane and making a surprise visit at the Knoxville Raceway where he would finish in the second spot on Saturday.

“It really made sense for our team,” Madsen said. “Our shop is in shouting distance of the Knoxville Raceway so we caught a flight, and went old school with an open trailer to the track.”

Checking in at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night for a Knoxville Championship Cup event, Madsen would time his Keneric Racing/American Racing/Morrison Racing Engines powered No. 29 machine in fifth fastest with 33 cars checked into the pit area.

Lining up fifth in his heat race, ‘The Mad Man’ would slip back to sixth before a caution would waive late in the race. Getting by Wayne Johnson to get into the fifth and final transfer position, Madsen would also get by Billy Balog for good measure to finish in the fourth spot.

Gridding the field from the third row for the 20-lap feature event, Madsen had a very strong car, as he quickly worked into the lead pack, and battled with Tim Kaeding, and Danny Lasoski as they chased after the race leader.

Following a caution just after the halfway point, the battle would heat up between the trio, with Madsen getting his elbows up, and claiming the second spot, as he chased after race leader, Justin Henderson. Running out of time, Madsen would close his night up with a very strong second place finish.

With the World of Outlaws on Friday night at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, ‘The Mad Man’ would recover from an early half spin to finish in the 10th position.

Timing in sixth fastest in time trials, Madsen would finish sixth in his heat race, and line up sixth in the dash, where he would finish.

Out of the third row for the feature event, Madsen would lose the handle on the extremely slick racing surface and fall back as far as the 12th spot. Searching around the speedway for grip, the St. Marys, NSW driver would finish in the 10th spot.

“We struggled a little bit on Friday night at Charlotte, but we were really strong at Knoxville on Saturday night,” Madsen added. “It was fun to get back and race close to our shop on a Saturday night, and I am thankful that our team let us compete.”

2015 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-44, Wins-6, Top-5’s-24, Top 10’s-36
