PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to put together a very strong and consistent 2014 campaign, Kyle Hirst had another great weekend as he picked up finishes of third and fifth place with the King of the West Series at the Ocean Speedway and Calistoga Speedway.

“We continue to be really strong, and it was great to pick up two more great finishes,” Hirst said. “The guys have been working really hard, and it is paying off.”

Taking to the Ocean Speedway for the first time in 2014, Kyle Hirst started the night off by timing his Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle No. 83JR entry in 11th fastest.

Lining up on the pole of his heat, KH was able to beat Shane Golobic in a drag race to the first corner as he never looked back, and went on to win the heat race, and earn a spot in the Dash.

Starting third in the Dash, Hirst’s third place finish lined him up in the second row of the 30-lap feature event on a track that was coming into form heading into the finale.

Running in the fourth spot during the early goings of the feature event, Hirst took advantage of a double-file restart around the halfway point of the race, and moved into the second spot, as he chased after Jonathan Allard, as he also had pressure from a charging Shane Golobic.

Taking the white flag in the second spot, trouble broke out exiting turn four as the field came to the checkered.

Getting caught up with a spinning lapped car, Hirst’s machine went spinning through the infield, and as he gathered his machine up, he was able to cross the stripe under his own power, and he was credited with a fifth place finish.

“We were pretty good, and our finish doesn’t necessarily show that as things got wild in the last corner,” he explained. “I though it was an interesting way for them to score it, but it is what it is, and we will move on.”

Saturday night Hirst hit the scenic Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, CA, and he flexed his muscle early as he timed in second fastest during qualifying time trials.

A third place finish in heat race action netted the Chico, CA resident a place in the Dash, where he finished in the fourth spot, putting him in the second row of the 25-lap feature event.

When the race went green, Hirst got a great start as he got into the third spot, and he slid up in front of Shane Golobic for the second spot in turns three and four, only to see Rico Abreu driver under both of them simultaneously to put him in third.

Chasing after the lead duo of Abreu, and Bud Kaeding, Hirst began feeling pressure from Jonathan Allard who was trying to take the third spot.

In a very exciting battle, Hirst would slip to the fourth spot on the 14th lap, with the yellow flying and bunching the field up on the 16th lap.

When the race went green, the battle for second was awesome, as Hirst battled with Allard and Kaeding, and when the caution flew on the 18th lap, Hirst sat in the third spot.

The final restart of the night was single file as a caution flew on the double file attempt, and Hirst hung with Allard for a few laps as he searched for the second spot, but in the closing laps, he wasn’t able to close up the gap, and closed his weekend with a  very strong third place run.

“Calistoga was a really fun race,” he said. “Rico and his team are tough to beat, and I congratulate them. We were pretty good ourselves and had a really fun battle with Bud Kaeding and Jonathan Allard for second, and we are thrilled to get a podium.”

Kyle and his Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle,  Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2013.
