PETERSEN MEDIA- In what was the biggest week of the year in Australia Sprint Car Racing, Kerry Madsen and his Keneric Racing/American Racing team performed well, as Madsen picked up the King’s Challenge last Thursday night before finishing fifth during the 43rd Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic on Sunday night.

“It was a great way to end a really strong month of racing,” Madsen said. “I really have to thank the Gavranich family for their continued support, the team at American Racing Custom Wheels, as well as my team for all of their efforts.”

Kicking his week off on Thursday night at Mount Gambier, Madsen timed his American Racing/EarthEx/KPC backed No. 29 machine in fifth fastest, before picking up a heat win. Lining up 11th in his second heat, “The Mad Man’ was locked in as he charged his way forward to a third place finish.

Earning a berth in the Pole Shootout, Madsen stayed strong as he took the win, and started the 30-lap feature event on the pole position.

As the King’s Challenge feature came to life, Madsen was the class of the field, as he quickly jumped on the loud pedal, and forged ahead of the rest of his competition.

In what was a fast paced feature event that only saw one stoppage, Madsen was never seriously challenged as he was crowned King, again, but this time in Australia, as he took home his second win of the 2015 season.

Setting his sights toward the 43rd Grand Annual Classic, Madsen had a night to recover and act as a spectator before he hit the track on Saturday night.

Timing in fourth fastest during his qualifying night, the 2014 King’s Royal Champion would win his first heat, before he charged from 11th to sixth in his second heat race.

Lining up in the fifth spot for the 30-lap feature event, Madsen was very patient in the early stages of the race, and ran comfortably in the top-five.

As the laps clicked down, the race had a twist with just 10 laps to go as a pair of front-runners got together, to bring the race to a stop.

Restarting in the second spot, Madsen gave David Murcott everything he had, but came up just feet short, in what was an exciting feature event.

Sitting third in points heading into the final night of action, Madsen would work his way to a fifth place finish, and look on to see where he would end up in the 40-lap feature event.

With an odd weather system causing havoc during much of the day at the Sungold Stadium, the night would become very long as an wet weather system drenched the speedway, and caused a lengthy delay.

With officials doing everything they could to get the show in, the surface retained too much moisture, and would cause a very fast, and locked down surface.

Lining up in the fifth spot, Madsen would get in line, and go, as he held down his fifth place position.

As the race clicked off at a torrid pace, Madsen was unable to make any moves, as the race went non-stop a shattered a 40-lap record, as Madsen ended his night with a very respectable fifth place finish.

“It was a great week overall for us, especially getting a big win at Mount Gambier,” he added. “We had a really fast racecar all week long, but unfortunately something out of our control (weather), made the feature event challenging. We are definitely pleased with our result, and we are happy to bring home a top five for Keneric Racing, American Racing, and all of our other partners.”

2015 BY THE NUMBERS- Starts-10, Wins-2, Top-5’s-7, Top 10’s-7

ON TAP: Madsen will now fly back to his home in Iowa and get ready to kick off his 2015 World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series season. Madsen and company are scheduled to hit the dirt in Florida the first weekend in February.
