PETERSEN MEDIA- Closing out Roth Motorsports’ 25th year of operation, Kyle Hirst made it a memorable one, as he was successful in claiming his fourth career King of the West Series Championship as well as his second Sprint Car Challenge Tour Championship as both series’ had their final event of the season Saturday night in Stockton, CA.

“On a personal note it is pretty cool to win two championships in one year, its something that I have never done before,” Kyle Hirst said. “I owe it all to Dennis and Teresa Roth as they put me in a great position to do this. Todd Ventura has supported me non stop over the years, and Cori Guy and Michael Helwig busted their butt’s for me all year to really make this a special season.”

Having issues in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour feature after racing out of the semi, Hirst’s body of work would still prove good enough to earn his second consecutive SCCT title as he remains the only driver to ever win the upstart series’ championship.

With the point battle tight in KWS action, Hirst would come out strong as he timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments backed entry in second fastest in qualifying time trials.

Picking up a second place finish in his heat race, Hirst moved into the Dash where he would end up winning his first KWS Dash of the season and find himself on the front row of the final 30-lap feature of the season as he lined up alongside Shane Golobic who was his challenger for the point championship.

Getting out to the early lead, Hirst would actually clinch the title on the race’s seventh lap as misfortune ended Golobic’s night.

Focused on picking up his 13th win of the season, Hirst would jump on the hammer after the lap seven red, and would open up a very sizeable lead as he left much of the field in his wake.

A late caution flag would bunch the field back up, and the ensuing restart would see Hirst and Rico Abreu duke it out for the top spot. Thrilling the crowd for a pair of laps, Abreu would get the better of Hirst, but Hirst would still finish second a celebrate a pair of championships when the night wrapped up.

“We definitely did not want to see that late yellow, but it is part of this sport,” Hirst added. “Rico Abreu has been really good since coming back home so we will take the second and enjoy these two championships. Again, it means a lot to get the Roth family some more hardware, and again I cannot thank them enough for continuing to stand behind me.”

The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2018.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 59, Wins: 12, Top 5’s: 32, Top 10’s: 36.
