Kyle Hirst Has Strong Showing at Silver Cup

PETERSEN MEDIA- Though the result sheet doesn’t tell the full story from the 2017 Silver Cup in Chico, CA, Kyle Hirst and Roth Motorsports were in the thick of things during both feature events.
“We kind of had some late race issues knock us out of contention, but we really had a good car both nights out over the weekend,” Kyle Hirst explained.
The annual two-day show at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA kicked off on Friday night, and Kyle Hirst would pen things up by timing the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments No. 83 machine in third fastest in time trials amongst the 28-cars checked into the pit area.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, KH would flex his muscles early on this night and race his way to the win and make the Roth Motorsports team eligible for the nightly redraw.
Pulling the three pill, Hirst would line up in the second row for the Silver Cup preliminary night feature event. As the race came to life, Hirst would settle into the third spot as he chased after the lead duo of Andy Forsberg and Sean Becker.
As traffic came into play, Hirst would close on the duo as they raced hard in front of him. As the laps clicked off in rapid-fire fashion on the quick surface, a car would get out of shape in front of Hirst and contact would cause steering damage to Hirst’s machine with just a handful of laps left in the race.
Able to make a repair in the work area, Hirst would restart the race and pick up a few spots as he ended up finishing in the 12th spot.
Saturday night’s finale would also mark the season opening event for the Civil War Series. Just as he did on Friday, Hirst would lay down a great lap during qualifying time trials, as he would end up second fastest overall.
Using a nice start in his heat race, Hirst would advance to the second spot from his second row starting position and punch his ticket to both the Dash and the Feature Event.
Following his fourth place run in the six-lap Dash, KH would line the potent No. 83 machine up in the second row for the 30-lap Silver Cup finale.
A myriad of cautions would slow the pace during the first eight laps, but once things finally settled down, Hirst would find himself in the fourth spot battling with Forsberg for the final spot on the podium. Over the course of the night ruts had developed in turns one and two making it tough for drivers to get through the corner on all four wheels.
Finally getting up into the third spot late in the race, a lap 19 restart would prove problematic for the Paradise, CA resident. Catching a rut in turns one and two, Hirst’s machine would do all but get upside down and he would lose several positions.
As he got his machine gathered back up, he would have a flat left rear tire from the incident, and bring his machine to a stop again forced to give up track position.
The final 10-laps of the race would see the three-time King of the West work his way forward and score a ninth place finish.
“We absolutely had a car that was much better than our results show, but things do happen in this sport, and that drives us to be better our next night out,” Hirst added. “Dennis and Teresa Roth really have done a great job of putting a strong team together and providing us with great equipment and we will do everything we can to make them proud this weekend in Tulare, CA.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2017.
