PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in the final event of the year at Silver Dollar Speedway, Kyle Hirst and Roth Motorsports put a tough Friday night behind them as they bounced back to win the Fall Nationals finale in thrilling fashion on Saturday night.
“I hate that Sean Becker and I banged wheels there with a few laps to go racing for the lead, it definitely takes some of the fun out of this, but hats off to my guys for giving me a great car,” Kyle Hirst said.
Following a Friday night that ultimately saw Roth Motorsports and Kyle Hirst finish 15th, the team came back looking to end their weekend on a high note as the Paradise, CA pilot timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Roth Investments backed No. 83 entry in sixth quickest in qualifying flight No. 2.
Grabbing the in in his heat race, Hirst would move into the Dash where a third place finish put him in the second row for the 40-lap Fall Nationals feature event. Moving into second on the race’s 13th lap, Hirst and Sean Becker would battle for the runner up position as they chased after race leader, Tony Gualda.
Reeling in Gualda, the duo would split Gualda on lap 16 with Becker getting the top spot, and Hirst continuing to run in second. Keeping Becker in his sights, Hirst would find something in the middle of the speedway that would see him close in on the race lead as the laps would down.
With Becker continuing to pound the top, Hirst continued to float the middle, and in traffic the race for the lead was on with less than five laps to go. With the two leaders battling a slower car on the 37th lap, Hirst stayed committed to the middle line, and as they ran three wide through turns one and two, close quarters racing would see the two leaders bang wheels.
Able to keep his car points straight, Hirst would take over the race lead, and go on to survive a feverish challenge by Justyn Cox to win the Fall Nationals and score his 12th win of the year in his 50th start of 2018 with Roth Motorsports.
“I hope the fans enjoyed the show,” Hirst said. “It was a long night, and it got cold but that was a fun race to run. Big thanks to my guys for working so hard for me and to Dennis and Teresa Roth for all they do for myself and this team.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, 3H Cattle, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2018.
BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 50, Wins: 12, Top 5’s: 29, Top 10’s: 33.
