PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyler Shaw raced with poise on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway and came away with an eighth place finish, and made his debut at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA on Saturday night with the King of the West Series as a local fire forced the cancellation of the race at the Placerville Speedway.

“It was nice to get some laps at Tulare for the first time, and it was even more special being that it was the Peter Murphy Classic,” Shaw said. “Friday night we seemed to have a tough night, but at the end of the day, we were able to score another Top-10.”

Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, Shaw timed his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports No. 92 machine in 16th fastest with 24 cars on hand, and looking to lock into the Johnny Key Classic.

Finishing fifth in heat race action, Shaw found himself lining up in the sixth row of the feature event, and when the race got underway, Shaw made contact with a pair of cars resulting in his nose wing coming loose and folding up on him.

On the fourth lap, the nose wing finally came loose, and flew off his machine causing a yellow, but Shaw elected to stay on the track, and race through it.

Sitting in the 10th spot much of the race, Shaw was unable to make the top work, so he elected to work the bottom of the speedway, as he continued to run in the 10th spot.

On the final lap of the feature event, Brad Furr caught a rut and bicycled in front of Shaw, and the Fresno, CA driver was able to take advantage, and steal the eight place finish at the line.

“We were probably a 10th place car without our nose wing, and it was one of those nights where I just focused on hitting my marks, and was fortunate enough to end up with an eighth place finish.”

Saturday night saw Shaw and his family team check into the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA for the Peter Murphy Classic, as the Placerville Speedway was being used to house people evacuated for their homes due to the Amador County Fire.

Timing in 24th fastest during time trials, Shaw started and finished sixth in his heat race, as he got comfortable running against the Tulare wall, but after the checkered flew on the race, Shaw’s rear-end expired, and he was unable to make repairs for the ‘B’ Main, and his night was over.

“I had an absolute blast running in Tulare, CA for the first time ever, and I am really excited for the Trophy Cup now,” he added. “I can’t thank my family enough for all they do for me, and all of the great people that continue to support our team.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Pro Signs, 4FourGraphics, F4st Four Media, Borrelo Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.

2014 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-17, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-7.
