PETERSEN MEDIA- Kyler Shaw has had a tough start to the 2015 season, but on Friday night, the Fresno, CA driver put together one of the strongest performances of his brief winged sprint car racing career as he picked up a career best fifth place finish at the Ocean Speedway.

“It was a pretty good weekend for the team overall, and the icing was picking up a career best finish on Friday night,” Shaw said.

Timing his Shaw Structures Unlimited/PM$ Investments/Stan Yockey Motorsports backed No. 92 machine in ninth fastest. Starting on the front row of his heat race, Shaw tried to drive around a slide-job attempt, but as he went high, and got over the cushion, he would lose a few spots, and slip back to the fourth spot where he would finish.

Getting his time back behind the redraw cars, Shaw would line the Motion Media Wraps/F4ST Four Media/Borello Racing Engines powered machine up in the fifth row for the 30-lap feature event.

With the race coming to life, Shaw ran in the ninth spot for the first few laps, until finding the bottom of the speedway to his liking. Keeping his machine glued to the inside curb, Shaw slowly began picking up positions, as he found himself in the sixth spot when the yellow flew at the halfway point of the race.

As the action resumed, Shaw would miss his line, and drift up the track losing a few spots, as he slipped back to the eighth spot with the laps clicking away. With the final few laps going caution free, Shaw was able to gain back his positions, and put a move on Nicholas Ringo with a few laps to go to take the fifth spot, where he would ultimately finish.

Making the tow to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Shaw would again time his machine in sixth fastest after sitting atop the speed chart for most of the qualifying session. Lining up third in his heat, Shaw would finish in the fourth spot, and again get his time back for the feature event behind the redraw cars.

Lining up in the ninth position, Shaw was too tight to roll the bottom, and searched around the speedway, as he ran in the 11th spot. As Shaw got comfortable on the speedway, a car would spin in front of him, and Shaw would hook him, and bring his machine to a stop.

Restarting from the back of the pack, Shaw would do what he could to avoid some late race carnage and end the night with a 13th place finish.

“Placerville was tricky, but I am glad we were able to roll our car back in the trailer,” Shaw said. “13th is not where we wanted to be, but after going to the back and seeing some of those crashes, I was thankful we weren’t collected.”

Kyler would like to thank Shaw Structures Unlimited, PM$ Investments, Stan Yockey Motorsports, Motion Media Wraps, F4st Four Media, Borello Racing Engines, Uncle Dave’s Ranch, and Sid’s Smokehouse for their support.
