PETERSEN MEDIA- With Mother Nature delaying the start to his 2017 campaign, Cody Lamar was finally able to kick things off on Saturday night in Antioch, CA with the upstart Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
“Saturday was a rough one,” Cody Lamar said. “I didn’t time in well, and it put me behind the eight ball with nearly 60 cars in the pit area.”
With qualifying typically being a strong suit for Lamar, going out late in his group would see him time the A1 Septic/Hunt Magnetos/NAAKE Suspension No. 9 machine in ninth fastest in his group.
Lining up in the ninth starting spot of his heat race, the Sacramento, CA driver would have his work cut out for him needing to race his way into the top-three to transfer to the feature event.
From his fifth row starting spot, Lamar was able to make up some ground during heat race action, but it would not quite be enough as his sixth place finish would relegate him into one of two twin “C” main events.
Gridding the field from the second row in his ‘C’, Lamar would slip up a bit when the race came to life and he would spin his machine out to a stop. From the back of the pack, Lamar would end up with an 11th place finish and his night would come to a disappointing end.
“It was definitely a disappointing night for us, but it’s just one race and it was our first race of the season at that,” Lamar added. “There is some rain in the forecast again this weekend, but we are hoping that changes and we are able to race again.”
