PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to work for a two-race weekend, Cody Lamar would charge from 12th to fifth on Friday night at Chico, CA before a wild wreck on a lap eight restart in Placerville, CA left him with a ton of torn up equipment.
“Friday night went really well, we timed in okay but kept working and put together a good run in the feature and on Saturday we had an awesome racecar but got caught up in a big wreck and really tore up a ton of equipment which is less than ideal,” Cody Lamar said.
Friday night in Chico, CA the Sacramento, CA driver kicked his night off by timing the A1 Septic/Amsoil/Walker Performance Filtration No. 9L machine in ninth quickest in qualifying time trials.
Finishing fifth in heat race competition, Lamar would move into the 25-lap finale where he would line up in the 12th starting position. In what was a fast paced feature event, Lamar would be forced to make some quick moves as the race went off in a hurry.
Working his way through the Top-10, Lamar would fine himself in the fifth position during the closing laps. Chasing after Mason Moore and RC Smith, Lamar would tally a fifth place finish when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
Regrouping and heading to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night, Lamar would get his night started by qualifying 11th quickest in time trials. Finishing fifth in his heat race, Lamar would be forced into the ‘B’ Main where his second place effort would keep his night going and put him in the 25-lap feature event.
Pleased with how his car felt heading into the feature, Lamar felt confident despite lining up in the 14th starting position. When the race came to life he was able to continue to gain speed and improve as he quickly moved inside the Top-10 and began working his way towards the Top-Five.
Running in sixth, the yellow flag would fly on the eighth circuit. This caution would prove to be detrimental for Lamar, as the ensuring restart would see him get involved in a multi car pile up with him taking a huge brunt of the contact. Though it wasn’t a crazy hard wreck, contact from all sides left the Sacramento, CA driver with a ton of torn up equipment as his night would be cut short.
“Saturday night we really worked hard on our car, and it felt awesome heading into the feature,” Lamar added. “Then the restart happened and it was all for not. Thanks to all my guys and sponsors for all they do. We will go to work and see what we can rebuild, fix, and replace.”
Cody and his team would like to thank A1 Septic, Amsoil, Walker Performance Filtration, and Joe Hunt Magnetos for their continued support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-16, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top 10’s-7
