Last Lap Contact Ends Strong Showing by Lucas Ashe

PETERSEN MEDIA: After taking a week off, Lucas Ashe made a return trip to Petaluma Speedway. Having a strong showing during that night that included his first career heat race win, contact on the race’s last lap would end Ashe’s bid at a podium finish.

“We had a great car all night long on Saturday, and I really have to thank Harley Van Dyke, and Fez for their hard work,” Ashe said. “It was looking like we were going to end up on the podium but contact in four on the last lap kept us from taking the checkered flag.”

Timing the SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 33 machine in seventh fastest on the Petaluma gumbo, Ashe would go on to pick up his first ever heat race win in a winged sprint car.

Moving into the nightly redraw, the Cottonwood, CA driver would pull the seven pill which placed him in the fourth row of the feature event. With an extremely fast racecar underneath him, Ashe had no problem working his way forward.

In only his second ever visit to the bay area facility, Ashe was going toe-to-toe with some of the best the track has to offer. Working his way into the third spot late in the race, Ashe’s progress would be held up in traffic.

As he continued to try and work through traffic, Ashe would take the white flag in the third position. Looking to be well on his way to a third place finish, contact in turn four would keep Ashe from taking the checkered flag and leave a bitter taste in his mouth on what was a very good night for his team.

“It’s disappointing to have our night end like that and not get the finish for these guys that they deserved,” Ashe said. “Again, they put together a really good car for me, and I am excited to get to Marysville Raceway this weekend and try again.”

Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, NAAKE Suspension, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, DMI Components Shaver Racing Engines, Maxim, Rod End Supply, Lucky Seven Outlaw Wings, Fat Cat Propane, Pickern Allstate Ins., Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 8, Wins-0, Top-5’s-0, Top-10’s-2
