PETERSEN MEDIA- Saturday’s Tribute to Al Hinds in Placerville Speedway was eventful for Tony Gualda and C&M Motorsports. Leading laps early and late in the feature event, contact on lap 21 would dash Gualda’s hopes of picking up his first career win.

“We had a bad fast racecar all night long, and I have to thank Cody, Mandi, Rich, and MF for everything they continue to do for me,” Gualda said. “We were fast each time we hit the track, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be on this night.”

Gualda opened the 15th Annual Tribute to Al Hinds up by timing the Moorefield Construction, Inc./Hollister Auto parts/PitStopUSA backed No. 7c machine in second quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Hollister, CA pilot would secure a fourth place finish at the line and move into the nightly redraw where the one pill put him on the pole for the 25-lap feature event.

When the finale went green, Gualda wasted no time jumping out to the lead as he began making the high side of the ¼ mile bullring work. Gualda would lead the race’s first 12 laps until the caution flag flew and bunched the field back up in double file formation.

Back underway, Gualda would come under fire from Justyn Cox, and Cox would get the spot and relegate the PT Shocks/Swartz Diesel/51 Fifty Energy Drink machine back into the second position.

Continuing to stick with Cox, Gualda would close back in on him on the 19th circuit as a slight bobble would erase the leader’s gap. Running side-by-side with Cox on the 21st lap, Gualda would find himself in the race lead after traffic would prove to be detrimental to cox.

Going to the top on the double file restart with four to go, Gualda would see a bid for the race lead turn into contact which would result in him getting upside down and ending his night on the 21st lap.

“We kind of got cleaned out on the lap 21 restart,” Gualda said. “I knew there would be pressure with it being so close to the end of the race, I had just hoped we would be upright to fight for it. We will get our car put back together and see what we can do this weekend in Petaluma, CA with the SCCT.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Moorefield Construction, Inc., Hollister Auto Parts, PitStopUSA, PT Shocks, Swartz Diesel, 51 Fifty Energy Drink, Alturas Tires, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Tony Gualda will return to action on Saturday night in Petaluma, CA with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-5, Wins-0, Top 5’s-1, Top 10’s-2.
