PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to adapt and get a feel for calling his own shots, Lucas Ashe was pleased with the progress he made on Friday night in Tulare, CA but a late race incident in the semi would end the Cottonwood, CA driver’s weekend.
“It was a decent night of racing,” Ashe said. “That place is tough and I am still learning what the car likes set up wise myself so like I keep saying, it is a process.”
Timing the Jester Auto Museum and Event Center/SALCO Inc./Lucas Oil backed No. 33 in ninth fastest in his time trial group, Ashe would line up in the fifth row of his heat race.
On a very slick and racy surface early in the night, Ashe would do a nice job of moving forward as he would work his way up into the seventh spot at the checkered flag which was big as it put him in the “B” opposed to being in one of the twin ‘C’ Main events on this night.
Lining up 13th in the semi, Ashe would continue to work his way forward as he was relentless in his pursuit of a transfer position. Able to avoid a couple of wrecks in front of him, Ashe would find himself in the fifth position late in the race.
Moving into fourth, Ashe would find himself in a transfer position with just a couple laps left in the semi, but as he raced through turns one and two a car would check up in front of him and he would get sideways as he got on the binders and chaos would ensue seeing several cars make contact with Ashe’s machine.
Done for the night, the damage to Ashe’s car would be extensive enough to end his weekend as he now will rebuild and retool for next week.
“It was a tough way to end the night,’ Ashe said. “We got going pretty good in the semi, and I thought we were going to make it into the feature but it didn’t work out. I have to thank my family and all of our backers for everything they do for me. We will take this weekend off to rebuild and get back to it ASAP.”
Lucas Ashe Racing would like to thank Jester Auto Museum and Event Center, SALCO Inc., Lucas Oil, STL Tile, Crown Motors, Logo USA, Triple X Race Co., DMI Components, VSR, Factory QRC, Shaver Racing Engines, Rod End Supply, Fat Cat Propane, and Justeson Farms for their continued support.
2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts- 11, Wins-0, Top-5’s-1, Top-10’s-4
ON TAP: Ashe will take this weekend off before deciding where he will return to next weekend.
