PETERSEN MEDIA- Having good speed on Saturday night in Placerville, CA during the 2017 Mark Forni Classic, Cody Lamar would again find himself getting involved in a late race incident that would end his night prematurely.
“Saturday night was tough, but it was a good tune up for two Sprint Car Challenge Tour events coming up this weekend,” Cody Lamar said. “We had good speed in time trials, made it out of a tough heat, and were getting around okay in the feature until getting collected late.”
With 42 cars checked into the Placerville Speedway pit area, Lamar timed the A1 Septic/Joe Hunt Magnetos/NAAKE Suspension backed No. 9L machine in seventh quickest in time trials, which placed him in the second row of his heat race.
Working into the second spot in his heat, Lamar would go onto finish in the second position, which moved him into the 25-lap feature event where he lined up in the 10th starting position.
On the slick and racy surface that was presented to the drivers in the feature event, the Sacramento, CA native would find himself in a tight pack of cars battling for a spot inside the Top-10.
With the group racing in close quarters, Lamar would be patient as he found himself officially in 12th when the caution flew on the eighth lap. The ensuring restart would then see Lamar drop back a couple of positions as he found himself back in the 15th position.
Continuing to try to get track position, Lamar would continue to run in the 15th spot until an incident occurred on the 21st lap that ultimately brought his night to an early end.
“Starting back in 10th, we just never were really able to get going,” Lamar added. “I thought out car was okay, but I didn’t get off to a good start and wasn’t able to take advantage of a couple double file restarts.”
Cody and his team would like to thank A1 Septic, Joe Hunt Magnetos, and NAAKE Suspension for their continued support.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-19, Wins-0, Top 5’s- 4, Top 10’s-7
ON TAP: Lamar is set for a weekend of Sprint Car Challenge Tour events this Friday and Saturday as he will be at Placerville Speedway on Friday and Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday.
