PETERSEN MEDIA- Making one final start with Lunstra Motorsports in the 2017 season, Tim Kaeding was in position to end the year on a good note at the Fall Brawl but a late flat tire would knock him out of the second spot late in the feature event.
“We had a really fast racecar, and it was looking like we were going to end our season on a good note,” Tim Kaeding said. “We spent some time in PA the last few weeks and struggled a little, so it was good to end our year with a really fast racecar.”
Running a two heat format on Saturday night at I-80 Speedway, Kaeding got the night off to a very nice start as he picked up the win aboard the Folkens Bro. Trucking/Dammer Trucking/Mihm Trucking No. 3 entry.
Lining up at the tail end of his second heat race, Kaeding was just as fast as he put on a clinic charging his way through the field. Racing his way up to third at the stripe, TK would put the Yager Ag Supply/Matt’s Repair/East River Homes machine on the front row of the 30-lap feature event.
With the race coming to life, TK would slice and dice for the top spot with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. As the duo battled hard for the race lead, they would find traffic and add another element to the race for the lead.
A caution on the 11th lap saw Kaeding sit in the second spot, but he would have to deal with a pair of lapped cars that were between himself and the leader. With the track conditions changing, Kaeding would finally clear the second one after a lap 17 restart and begin reeling Hafertepe in.
With rubber beginning to go down on the speedway, tire wear would become a factor. Running in the second position on lap 28, Kaeding would shred his right rear tire, and his night would come to an end.
“It was a bummer way to end our season, but I have to thank Dave and Jamie Lunstra, as well as everyone that supported our team all year long,” TK added. “It was a good year in the Midwest and I am looking forward to getting back home for a little bit.”
