Late Mechanical Issues Hinders Carson Hammes at Marysville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Carson Hammes has turned into one to watch weekly at Marysville Raceway. Saturday night, the youngster was back up front for much of the feature event until a mechanical issue on lap 22 dashed a good finish as he was forced to pull into the pit area and bring his night to an early end.

“We had a really good night going, but unfortunately issues towards the end of the race soured things for us,” Carson Hammes explained.

With 21 cars on hand as the track returned to racing action, Hammes got off to a quick start as he timed his Movement Brewing/STS Farming/All About Fire Protection backed  No. 56C entry in fifth fastest in time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Marysville, CA driver slipped back to finish fourth, but it was still good enough to lock him directly into the feature event, as well as into the redraw based on his qualifying effort.

Drawing the two, Hammes was on the front row of the 25-lap feature event as he chased after his second feature event win of the season.

Lining up alongside reigning track champion, Brian McGahan Jr, Hammes settled into second as McGahan rocketed into the race lead. Feeling pressure from Nick Larson for the second spot, Hammes slipped back to third where he ran for the first half of the race.

Taking the second position back over on the 14th lap, Hammes tried to chase down McGahan but the leader set a blistering pace when the action was green. Feeling pressure from Drake Standley at times as they two youngsters battled for second, trouble bit on the 22nd lap as Hammes slowed with issues that ultimately brought his night to an end.

“Big thanks to my friends, family and sponsors that always support us,” Hammes noted. “I also want to thank Evan, Cody, Cole, Mallorie, and Tony for helping at the track and hanging out in the pit area.”

Hammes Motorsports would like to thank Movement Brewing, STS Farming, All About Fire Protection, Summit Partners Burbank Agency, Escalera Inc., Harper Inc., and Ace Attorney Services for their continued support.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races: 8, Wins: 1, Top 5’s: 3, Top 10’s: 3
