PETERSEN MEDIA- Climbing aboard his own Willie Croft Racing No. 29 machine for the first time since picking up a pair of wins just one month ago, Willie Croft looked to be on his way to a King of the West win on Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway until he was collected in a wreck just five laps shy of the checkered flag.

“We were awesome all night long, and really had a car that should have won the race,” Croft said. “Unfortunately a pair of cars got together right in front of us and that was the end of our night.”

Flexing his muscles all night long, Croft opened his night up by timing the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller backed No. 29 machine in third quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Croft used the top side of the speedway to get by Jason Statler with just a couple of laps to go to pick up the win and head into the Dash.

Picking up the Dash win, Croft would lead the field to green for the 30-lap feature event on a tricky Placerville Speedway. Getting off to a strong start, Croft would take a liking to the high side of the speedway in turns three and four as he quickly opened up a sizeable lead as he set a torrid pace.

In traffic, Bud Kaeding would close in on Croft, but the Roseville, CA driver would keep him at bay as he put his machine anywhere he needed to carve through traffic.

Following a caution just past the halfway point, Kaeding would hang with Croft on the restart and the duo would pull away from the rest of the lead pack. Still out front, Croft would again work his way through traffic very well and give himself some breathing room.

Completing the 25th circuit, Croft would see a pair of cars get together in front of him and as he got collected, he appeared to have his  machine still under power, but another car would be unable to avoid him and the contact would bring his night to an end.

“To lead 25 laps and come away with a DNF is a bummer, but we opened some eyes tonight, and hopefully we can show the same speed in Chico this weekend,” Croft said.

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2015.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-4, Wins-2, Top 5’s-2, Top 10’s-2.

ON TAP: Croft will be back aboard his Willie Croft Racing No. 29 machine this weekend at the Silver Dollar Speedway.
