Late Race Contact Dashes Steven Tiner’s Potential Top Five Run at SCCT Finale

PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking to close his 2017 campaign out on a high note with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night in Stockotn, CA, late race contact would dash Steven Tiner’s top five run with the tour as he would be relegated to a 13th place finish.

“We had a really good car in the feature event, and I think we had a good shot at getting on the podium,” Steven Tiner said. “Unfortunately on a restart someone got into the back of us and pushed me through the infield and we had a bit of an adventure and ended up finishing 13th.”

Timing the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Fisher Racing Engines backed No. 94 machine in quickest in his qualifying group, the Sacramento, CA native turned Visalia, CA resident would work his way to a second place finish in his heat race and earn a spot in both the Dash and the feature event.

Finishing sixth in the Dash, the 2017 Placerville Speedway Track Champion would grid the field from the third row for one final feature event of the year. On the hooked up and fast Stockton Dirt Track, Tiner got off to a nice start as he ran in the fifth spot during the first 16 laps of the race that clicked off with no stoppages.

Continuing to run in fifth, Tiner would move into fourth on a lap 19 restart as he chased after Dominic Scelzi, Shane Golobic, and Willie Croft. Finding himself in a battle with Kyle Hirst, Tiner would slip back to the fifth spot just before the caution flew on lap 26.

The ensuring restart would see Tiner feel contact to the rear of his car and it would force him to take a wile ride through the field before being able to get back on the racing surface in turns one and two.

Falling back to 12th, Tiner would eventually lose another position, as he would come home with a 13th place finish.

“It definitely was not the way we wanted to end our year, but at least we ended it having a lot of speed,” Tiner said. “Great to win the Placerville Track Championship, great to go back to Little Rock, AR and make the show, and great to have a good Trophy Cup for the most part. I want to thank all of the people who work hard and support our team, and hopefully we can find some more help this winter and come out strong in 2018.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Kevin Sharrah Designs, Prior Engineering, B&B Racing Engines, ART, System One Pro Ignition, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-43, Wins-3, Top 5’s-17, Top 10’s-26
