PETERSEN MEDIA- Make a rare appearance at Watsonville, CA’s Ocean Speedway on Friday night, Jarrett Soares looked to be on his way to a Top-10 finish until late contact would see him fall back to finish in the 13th spot.
“Friday night was an alright night,” Jarrett Soares said. “We made improvements, and it felt good to be battling in the Top-10 for much of the night.”
With 22 cars checked in to take part in the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo season opening event, Soares would time in eighth fastest in qualifying time trials.
On the extremely slick Ocean Speedway, Soares would struggle a bit during heat race action, as he would slip from his second starting position to finish back in the fifth spot.
Heading to the feature event, the Discovery Bay, CA driver would line up in the fifth row for the 30-lap affair. With the track still slick, Soares would settle into a nice groove, as he would race inside the Top-10 battling with some stiff competition.
Late in the race however, Soares would feel some contact from another driver and it would result in him getting up into the wall. Though he would continue to race on, his battered car would be tough to hang on to as he slipped back and finished in the 13th spot with a broken w link, and a broken shock.
“Brian Sperry and my dad are working hard to get me comfortable, and give me a fast race car and it’s making me hungry to be up front battling the top guys,” Soares said. “We are building the right direction and I know it will all come together.”
