Late Race Miscue Derails Tony Gomes and C&M Motorsports at Placerville Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of their first win of the season one week ago, Tony Gomes and C&M Motorsports were in position to battle for another win on Saturday night, but a late race mishap dashed their hopes at the 20th Tribute to Al Hinds.

“Saturday night did not end how I had hoped,” Tony Gomes said. “We did a good job of putting ourselves in a great spot all night long, but I hopped the curb entering behind a couple of cars with a few laps to go and brought our night to a bit of an abrupt ending.”

20 cars checked in to pay homage to the former Placerville Speedway promoter at the 20th Tribute to Al Hinds, and Gomes opened the night up by timing the Lund Construction/Anrak/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c in fifth quickest in time trials.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Modest, CA driver had his elbows up as he made a couple of nice moves to race his way into the lead. Hanging on to the lead and picking up the win, Gomes earned a berth in the nightly redraw.

Pulling the three in the redraw, Gomes lined the Alturas Tires/Swartz Diesel/Adrian Blanco Jewelry backed entry up in the second row of the 25-lap feature event.

With the waiving of Ron Stahl’s green flag, Gomes held down the third spot as the first couple of laps were slowed by caution flags. Once the race got into a flow, Gomes ran in the third position as he battled with Michael Faccinto and Andy Forsberg.

Slipping back to fourth briefly, Gomes began to battle with Jake Morgan as they jockeyed for position on the quarter mile bullring. Getting into third, the battle with Morgan continued.

As Gomes looked to race into second, the duo approached a slower car on the 22nd lap, and as they split the car, Gomes got up over the cushion and spun his entry out. As he was coming to a stop, contact form another car caused damage to the car which ended C&M Motorsports’ night.

“I hate the way our night ended, but I am thankful that Cody and Mandi continue to put me in such a good spot night in and night out,” Gomes added. Cody, Bobby, and Ron worked hard all night, and I am thankful for their efforts. We are all looking forward to getting back to Placerville Speedway on the 29th.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports will be idle this week before returning to Placerville Speedway on April 29th.
