PETERSEN MEDIA: Trying to make something happen late in Saturday night’s Johnny Key Classic on a rubber down race track, Steven Tiner would get off the racing surface, and wind up finishing 14th.

“Double file restarts were not going our way, and I tried to make up some ground late in the race when the rubber was down, and I got off the track,” Tiner said. “It was no ones fault but my own.”

With 30 cars on hand not locked into the A Main event already, Tiner would time the Larry Davis Farms/Wright Process Systems/Elma Lanes No. 94 machine in eighth fastest.

Heat races would be lined up with no inversion, putting him on the front row of the fourth heat. Needing to finish in the top-three, the Visalia, CA driver would pick up the win in an exciting finish and move on the 50-lap A Main.

Rolling off from the sixth row, Tiner would find himself inside the Top-10 as the race’s first caution flew on the ninth lap. The caution on lap nine would trigger a slow period for the race as the caution would seemingly fly every two laps until the break.

With double file restarts in play, Tiner would lose a few positions one restart, and gain a few back the next restart, as he ran in the 12th spot during the break.

“Restarts were tough,” Tiner said. “We would race well, and then fall back a few spots if we were on the inside lane.”

As rubber would go down on the track lap after lap following the break, Tiner would continue to run in the 12th spot. On a lap 34 restart, Tiner would try to make something happen, and it would result in him getting of the speedway, and bringing out the caution flag. With the rubber down, Tiner would get back to the 14th spot over the race’s final 16 laps.

“I knew restarts would be the only way to gain ground, so I went for it and it just did not work out for us,” Tiner said. “We had a good car but things just did not go our way in the A.”

Steven and his Steven Tiner Racing team would like to thank Larry Davis Farms, Wright Process Systems, Elma Lanes, Deli Delicious, Fisher Racing Engines, Harvest Supply, Powder Coat-It, SRP, Wilwood, FSR, XYZ Machine, DMI, Dan Olson Race Products, HRP, Sander Engineering, Sweet Manufacturing, Schoenfeld, and Roseville Precision for their continued support.

2015 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-25, Wins-2, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-17

ON TAP: Tiner will now head to Montana as he is set for three nights of action in Great Falls, MT with Peterson Motorsports.
