Late Race Tangle Dashes Tony Gomes’ Hard Charge Efforts at Placerville

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting off to an auspicious start at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night in the C&M Motorsports No. 7c, Tony Gomes rebounded well only to see late race contact bring his night to an early end after fighting his way into the Top-Five.

“We have been so good at Placerville this year, and Saturday was a bummer with how it all played out,” Tony Gomes said. “Despite us not timing in well, everyone stayed positive and we raced very well, but we endured some contact with a few laps to go and it ended our night about five laps early.”

Hitting the track second overall in qualifications, Gomes timed the Anrak/Lund Construction/Sam Rhodes backed No. 7c in 18th fastest and found himself behind the eight ball early in the night.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, Gomes had his elbows up as he put forth a very impressive run. Working into third in the first couple of laps, Gomes made a last lap pass to net a second-place finish.

Despite the strong showing in his heat, Gomes was still mired deep in the starting lineup due to his qualifying time and took the green flag from the 14th starting position.

On a very slick Placerville Speedway racing surface, Gomes continue to forge ahead just as he did in heat race competition. Moving into 10th on the third lap, Gomes continued to quickly climb through the field as he worked into sixth on the eighth circuit, and was in fifth by the time the field was displayed the cross flags at the halfway point of the show.

As he got into fifth, Gomes settled in as passing started to slow down with the slick surface being tricky to grab hold of. On the 19th lap, contact ensued and it brought Gomes’ charge to a halt and ultimately ended his night as he officially was credited with an 18th place finish.

“It was a frustrating way to end our night, after we fought hard to dig out of a hole,” Gomes added. “It was great to have speed like we did on such a slick surface, and with us getting into the summer and really slick surfaces become more of the norm I think we will be just fine. Thank to Cody, and Mandi, as well as John, and Wyatt for their hard work. Looking forward to the Bradway Memorial in two weeks.”

The C&M Motorsports team would like to thank Lund Construction, Anrak, Sam Rhodes, Alturas Tires, Swartz Diesel, Adrian Blanco Jewelry, Kings Meats, American Paving Systems, PT Shocks, Creason Enterprises, and all of their product sponsors for their continued support.

ON TAP: C&M Motorsports and Tony Gomes return to action on Friday June 2nd at Placerville Speedway.
