Liggett Lands on USAC West Coast Podium

PETERSEN MEDIA: Taking on the USAC West Coast 360 Series on Saturday night aboard the Austin Liggett Racing machine, Austin Liggett would patiently work his way forward and grab the final spot on the podium in Tulare, CA.
“You had to be patient on Saturday night, and I admittedly was not early in the race,” Liggett said. “We had a good car, and once I calmed down and starting hitting the bottom I was able to get us back on the podium.”
A total of 22 cars checked into Tulare, CA’s Thunderbowl Raceway for the USAC West Coast 360 Series’ portion of the Faria Memorial. Kicking his night off in time trials, Liggett would set the standard as he earned quick time honors aboard the Excel Environmental Services/Liggett Trucking/Lucas Oil No. 83 sprinter.
With a heat race inversion of four being the norm with the USAC West Coast 360 Series, the Tracy, CA driver would take the green flag from the second row in the night’s first heat race. Working his way up to second, Liggett would move into the feature event where he would grid the field from the sixth starting spot.
On an extremely slick Thunderbowl Raceway surface, Liggett would get a little to antsy early in the race as he would slip back to eighth spot. Calming himself down, Liggett would start to hit his marks on the bottom of the track as he began working his way forward through the field.
The slick surface saw most of the field work the bottom of the speedway and it would make passing tough as the race moved along. Continuing to show patience, Liggett would settle in nicely as he was able to run third on Saturday night to Ryan Bernal and Kyle Hirst.
“My Dad and brother-in-law, Landon Hurst, really gave me a great racecar on Saturday night,” Liggett said. “We have been running well with the USAC West Coast Series and I hope we can keep it up.”
Austin Liggett would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Liggett Trucking, Lucas Oil, Tool Technology, Infinity Shocks, Steve Watt Enterprises, Brian Sperry Racing, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.
2017 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-13, Wins-5, Top 5’s-12, Top 10’s-13
ON TAP: Liggett will now climb aboard the Brian Sperry Racing entry on Saturday night as the Hunt Series resumes action in Stockton, CA.
