PETERSEN MEDIA: Current USAC West Coast 360 Series point leader Austin Liggett had an extremely successful weekend at the Peter Murphy Classic that saw him come away with a pair of fourth place finishes during two hard fought feature events.

“It’s hard to complain when you have a weekend where you have two Top-Five finishes,” Austin Liggett said. “It wasn’t what we were hoping for exactly but it certainly isn’t anything to hang out heads about either.”

Friday night Liggett kicked off his doubleheader weekend at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA by timing the Excel Environmental Services/Lucas Oil/Hurst Fabrications backed No. 83 entry in fourth quickest in qualifying time trials.

A special part of the Peter Murphy Classic would be a Dash for Cash that was simply a race for money and had no reflection on the rest of the night. Giving it his all on the slick surface, Liggett would pocket a third place finish.

Finishing second in his heat race, Liggett would make his way to the feature event where some rubber would already be down on the surface from the night of action that had taken place to this point. Doing all he could despite the tricky conditions, Liggett would bring his ALR entry home with a fourth place finish.

Coming back for another round of action on Saturday night, Liggett would pick up a second place finish in his heat race which would earn him a spot in the Australian Rules Pole Shuffle that would established the starting line up for the feature event.

Finishing fourth in the Shuffle, Liggett would take the green flag from the second row for the 30-lap affair. On the slick racing surface, Liggett would do a nice job of maintaining early as he would jump into second as he chased after Richard Vander Weerd.

As Vander Weerd pounded the top, Liggett would look to sneak underneath him but would not be able to do so. Chasing after Vander Weerd on the 23rd lap, the power would go out at the track and the field would head to the work area under Open Red conditions.

The final seven laps would see Liggett give up a couple of positions as he would slip back and close his weekend out with another fourth place finish.

“I really want to thank Peter Murphy for how hard he works on this big weekend each and every year,” Austin Liggett said. “He puts forward such an amazing effort that it really makes drivers and teams want to come back year after year, and he makes it a race you REALLY want to win.”

Austin Liggett Racing would like to thank Excel Environmental Services, Lucas Oil, Hurst Fabrications, Infinity Shocks, 4 Alarm Promotions, Epic Fire Apparel, and Jarrett Soares Racing for their support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-10, Wins-1, Top 5’s-7, Top 10’s-7

ON TAP: Liggett is still undecided on this weekend’s plans at time of press.
